At Specialist Care Team, we prioritise the protection and privacy of personal data. In our sector, it is essential to safeguard the sensitive information of those we care for. To uphold our commitment to data security, we have implemented a reporting process for any potential or actual data breaches.
What is a Data Breach?
A data breach occurs when personal information is compromised. This might happen through unauthorized access, accidental or intentional data inaccuracies, or loss of access to necessary information. Below are examples relevant to our field:
Confidentiality Breach: Unauthorised access to data can occur through cyber-attacks, such as a hacker gaining access to our system, or through errors, such as sending sensitive care records to the wrong person.
Integrity Breach: Data accuracy and validity are essential. For instance, if a Medication Administration Record (MAR) sheet is filled out inaccurately, either by mistake or intentionally, it is considered a data breach that could affect the well-being of service users.
Availability Breach: For data to be useful, it must be accessible. For example, if care records needed to provide timely support to a service user are locked in an office and the key is lost, this limits access to essential information and is a data breach.
If you suspect or identify a data breach, it is essential to report it immediately. Please complete the form and notify your line manager.
